Robert D. R. Moss – 3rd Great Grandfather

Enlisted with the 24th on May 31, 1861 at Lynchburg, Virginia. Discharged February 21, 1862.
Enlisted with the 51st on February 20, 1863 at Narrows, Virginia. Captured at Waynesboro, Virginia on March 2, 1865. Sent to Fort Delaware. Description: 5′ 9″, dark hair, dark complexion, gray eyes, resident of Patrick County, Virginia. Released from Fort Delaware on June 20, 1865.
Robert married Rebecca Frances Mize on December 28, 1865 in Rockingham County, NC. Note that Robert is called “Robert D. R. Moss Jr.” in his marriage bond. This is because his uncle, not his father, was named Robert D. R. Moss. Robert’s parents were Amelius Mason Moss and his wife, Mary. Mary’s maiden name is unknown. No documentation has ever been found to indicate what her name was or who her parents were.
Robert & Rebecca are buried in the Vandola community cemetery on Vandola Road in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
